Harassment: Predicting Outcomes in Federal & State Courts

An empirical analysis of workplace harassment cases filed in state and federal court, examines:

  1. What predicts outcomes of race and sex harassment cases;

  2. Whether courts have changed the standard for what constitutes harassment over time; and

  3. Whether judges’ assessments of harassment diverge from those of a mock jury.

Intersectionality in Action

I am creating a dataset of federal Title VII cases from 1970-2020 where the alleged discrimination/ harassment is based on two or more protected characteristics to systematically analyze outcomes, legal approaches and trends over time. The goal is to ultimately propose a framework to better protect women of color experiencing both racism and sexism at work.
